MELLISA RICH, who won the 2007 Kansas Woman Owned Business of Year award from the Kansas Department of Commerce. Rich is president of Rich Enterprises.
- Organizers of and participants in the Emporia Main Street Auction. The event raised $7,000 for the organization.
- Emporia High School running back Edd Noonan, who was named the Army Iron Man of the Week. The award honors the best two-way player in high school football in Kansas.
- Emporia State University cross country runner Jonel Rossbach, who placed second in Regional and will advance to Nationals.
- EHS volleyball coach Kendra Bloomquist, who was named the All-Centennial League Coach of the Year.
- School Superintendent John Heim, who ran the New York Marathon. He completed the race in five hours and 19 minutes.
- Emporia World War II veteran Warren Horton, who has been accepted by the French government as knight of the French Legion of Honor. Horton will be formally accepted at tonight’s USO show at Albert Taylor Hall.
