Involved in what

As the church of Jesus Christ, we are privileged to be involved in many good endeavors. We are in business to do good unto all men (Galatians 6:10), even to “those that hate us” as Jesus instructed in Matthew 5:44. When we give to the poor, the less fortunate than ourselves, we are following the Lord’s command. We are to support the weak and to pray for one another. We are to fellowship together and to bear one another’s burdens.
However, the most important of all our endeavors is the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ unto the uttermost part of the earth. All the other endeavors pale in their importance to the spreading of the message of salvation to every man, woman and child.
The spiritual darkness in which the natural man is captivated can only be dispelled by the light of the glorious gospel of Christ. This darkness is evidenced by the many and varied beliefs and religions that we see all about us. Mankind around the world is going about to establish their own righteousness and have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. The spiritual light that we all need is Jesus Christ, “the light of the world”. John 12:46 says “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” For the sake of every precious soul we must endeavor to spread the gospel
Before Jesus went back into heaven, after His resurrection, He commanded His church to take the gospel message to all those who had not heard. He, as God in the flesh, had given His life for the sins of the whole world and He wanted that good news to be shard with all people. Everyone will not believe the gospel and be saved, but everyone should hear the gospel. When people hear this truth, many will turn to Christ for salvation.
Missionary William Carey said, “ Why should anyone hear the gospel twice until everyone has heard it once?”
To be obedient to the command of our captain in heaven, we should endeavor to take the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Jesus said that we should be witnesses unto Him “in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
In our church, we call this missions. Call it what you wish; just determine that this will be your most important endeavor. To tell Emporia, Kansas and the entire world that Jesus Christ loves them and will save all those that call upon Him.
F “Sunday Sermon” is a forum for Emporia area ministers to share their sermons, thoughts and observations. This week’s sermon is from the Rev. Kenneth Armstrong of the West Side Baptist Church.
