Buck fund donates books

Friday, November 9, 2007

As part of their humane education service project for 2007, the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund has chosen to donate books to area libraries and the Emporia City commissioners about the situation for shelter pets and workers in municipal animal shelters.

The book being donated is “One at a Time: A Week in an American Animal Shelter” written by Diane Leigh and Marilee Geyer. The book chronicles a week in a northern California animal shelter and features individual animals that were in the shelter during that week. The book features a picture of the animal and the animal’s story — whether they were reunited with owner, adopted or euthanized.

“We feel the stories in this book has to tell will open minds, teach the importance of spay an neuter and encourage families to visit an animal shelter when looking for a new pet,” said MiChielle Cooper, director of the Buck Fund. “...Even though the book tells tales of tragedy, it also tells tales of triumph in successful adoptions.”

The book has been donated to school libararies and Madison, Lebo and Cottonwood Falls Public Libraries. It also is available for purchase through the Buck Fund and bookstores or at www.NoVoiceunheard.org. For more information, contact the Buck Fund at 343-3377.
