The ball cap says “My Son is a Marine.” The gold bar on it is the one he took off his uniform when he replaced it with the silver first lieutenant bar. I talked to him late last week before he embarked on a Marine Expeditionary Unit on Sunday. He had a million things on his mind — especially his three kids, whom he won’t see until next summer, and his wife, who will become a U.S. Citizen this month — oh yeah, and that Marine job. Take care, Son.
Growing up in Dodge City (with a dad and five uncles who were veterans) and now living in Emporia, the founding place of Veterans Day, really drives home the sense of pride and gratitude I have for our military men and women and their families. Here is one old Vietnam Vet who says “Thank you” to active duty and veterans on that day when “We Honor All Who Served.”
