Garth Brooks music fans from around the world this week converged on Kansas City, Mo., to attend his sold-out performances at the Sprint Center. Emporian Charlie Mahon and his girlfriend Rozie Fessler were in the audience for Thursday’s show.  Mahon, who has listened to Brooks’ music for years, described the show as one of the best concerts he had been to.

“He is a great entertainer.” Mahon said “I have never been to a concert before where the crowd was so into it.”

Brooks played most of his old music and one new track. He also played cover tunes from Randy Travis, George Strait and Billy Joel.

The Garth Brooks concerts were one of the first events to take place in the newly built $276 million Sprint Center that opened Oct. 10. Brooks was scheduled to play a total of eight shows at the Sprint Center .

Mahon and Fessler were two of 17,000 fans who attended the Thursday night concert.

Mahon hadn’t planned on going to the concert but a friend had some extra tickets.

“We had great seats.” Mahon said. “We were about six rows up but it really didn’t feel like there was a bad seat in the house.

“One of the coolest things that happened was one of the girls standing in the first couple of rows — it was her birthday. He ended up taking his guitar off, signing and giving it to her,” Mahon said.

Mahon enjoyed the Brooks concert so much that he would consider seeing him again.

“If I could take this weekend off work I would go again.” Mahon said.

Only the Gazette would put a pointless, 269 word feature as the lead story.

Garth is a Brilliant entertainer, I envy all those people going to the Kansas City Shows. If only more people in the Entertainment industry were as down to earth as he is.
