Emporia State turned the ball over on its first six possessions.

The first shot attempt by the Lady Hornets was 3 minutes, 39 seconds in, as Michelle Stueve was fouled on a shot.

At the first media timeout, ESU was 0-of-0 from the floor.

After a Michelle Stueve three, KU went on a 9-0 run to take a 23-5 lead.

After falling behind 27-10, ESU used an 11-0 run to pull within six.

KU went scoreless from the eight-minute mark to the 1:51 mark of the first half.

Three Cassondra Boston free throws were the final points of the half, cutting the KU lead to 31-26.

ESU trailed by 5 at half despite making just six field goals in the first 20 minutes.

Following a pair of Stueve layups, Andrea Leiker tied the score at 33 with a wide-open 3-pointer from the left side with 16:38 remaining in the game.

KU followed with a 7-0 spurt to re-take a 40-33 lead.

ESU went 6 minutes, 15 seconds without a point.

Four free throws from Alli Volkens cut the KU lead to 50-46 with 5:59 left.

Boston has the last seven points for ESU, including a leaner that gave ESU its first lead at 51-50 and a bank shot that tied it at 53.

Leiker hit two free throws, then KU's Danielle McCray hit two freebies to tie it at 55.

ESU had the chance for one shot with 31.4 seconds left, but Nicollette Smith came up with a steal.

On KU's final possession of regulation, Smith missed a three. Taylor McIntosh came up with the rebound but had the ball knocked away as time expired.

The key play in OT for KU came when McCray scored a layup and was also intentionally fouled by Leiker.

The Lady Jayhawks turned it into a 5-point possession, bumping their lead to 67-59.

McCray finished with 36 points. Boston had 29.

It was a great game Lady Hornets, you have a lot to be proud of. This story DOES NOT give justice to the game!!! Sounds like it was written right off the stat sheet...

Good effort lady hornets....and nice coaching job by hornet coaches adjusting to D-1 players and getting the lady hornets to play hard for 45 minutes.. They will get better when Edwards and the volleyball player( Miller )get in the rotation. The lady hornets could have used some more size and quickness in the last 5 minutes of the game. Glad to see Pres Lane at the game supporting successful ESU athletic teams. Also, the freshman from Iowa, #50, played her 1st college game and my opinion is she is going to be really good. She got a little tougher as the game went along and started making her presence known to K.U. This team will be a FORCE in the MIAA this year.

Gregorymed,
It seems you always like to talk about how you think President Lane isn't supporting the athletic programs well he has been supporting ever since he got to ESU. He was at baseball and softball games in the spring and he has even been going to many of the volleyball games this year. Maybe you should check with him to see if he followed the football team down to Pitt for the last game of the season. He is supporting ESU athletics so just give him a chance.
