The No. 17 Emporia State volleyball team couldn’t pull off its second consecutive upset Friday, falling 28-30, 30-25, 30-11, 27-30, 15-10 to No. 7 Truman in Kirksville, Mo.
The Hornets knocked off No. 4 Washburn on Tuesday in Emporia.
ESU’s Brittney Miller finished off Game One, putting down the game-winning kill for a 30-28 win.
The Bulldogs (30-5, 12-1 MIAA) responded in the next two games, taking easy 30-25 and 30-11 victories to go up 2-1.
The Hornets answered with a 30-27 triumph in Game Four, with Ting Liu putting down the final kill.
Game Five was tied at 8 before Truman went on a 4-0 run to take the lead for good.
Arica Shepard led ESU with 20 kills and 17 digs. It was the fifth straight match that Shepard has had at least 20 kills.
Brianne Boner added 13 kills with a .462 attack percentage. She also had an MIAA season-high 14 blocks.
ESU (24-7, 10-3 MIAA) will play its final match of the regular season today against Missouri-Rolla in Kirksville, Mo.
