A traveling exhibit about midwest prisoners of war in Nazi Germany entitled “Behind Barbed Wire” will be in Emporia from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave. The “Bus-eum” will be parked on the west side of the library. According to the press release, the “first U.S. troops sent to fight in World War II came from the upper midwest and the region’s 334th ‘Red Bull’ division served the longest uninterrupted duty in U.S. military history — about 600 days.” The museum text says “There were three main waves of Midwest POWs: those captured in North Africa in 1943, those pilots shot out of the sky during the air war over Europe and those soldiers captured at the Battle of the Bulge, near the war’s end.” The exhibit explores the experiences of Midwest prisoners of war.
