The Emporia State Athletics Department will celebrate the end of another year with the annual ESU Athletic Club Auction and Golf Tournament this weekend.
The auction will be held at Bruff’s Steakhouse, 2640 W. 18th Ave., on Friday beginning with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. The auction items will be on display at Bruff’s beginning at noon Friday.
The golf tournament tees off at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course and will include current Dallas Cowboy Patrick Crayton in the field of 40 teams.
There will be more than 60 items up for live auction Friday night, including several items from NASCAR Nextel Cup driver and Emporia native Clint Bowyer. The highlight of the NASCAR items is a Jack Daniel’s authentic racing suit worn by Bowyer this season and autographed by the driver.
Bowyer is ranked 10th in the NASCAR Nextel Cup standings.
Those attending also will be able to bid on items ranging from a three-night stay in Branson to a trip with the Hornet basketball team to an exhibition game against Texas A&M.
There also will be chances to bid on tickets to Kansas City Chiefs home games, autographed memorabilia from the University of Kansas basketball team and Kansas State football team and the chance to sit on the bench during a number of Hornet and Lady Hornet athletic events. There also will be many Emporia State items, including autographed jerseys.
There will be an additional 20 items on silent auction throughout the evening.
Although the golf tournament is currently filled, a waiting list is being kept at the ESU Athletic Development Offfice. Registration is $125 per person for the four-person scramble and includes the round of golf, cart, ESU adidas golf polo, sleeve of ESU logo golf balls, lunch at the course and all food and beverages. Awards will be given out to the top five places in two flights.
Proceeds from the ESU Athletic Club Auction and Golf Tournament help bolster scholarships and operating budgets for the individual athletic programs at ESU.
Emporia State had seven programs finish the season in the top 33 nationally during the 2006-07 seasons, while 54 percent of Hornet student-athletes made the ESU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.00 or better.
