The Emporia State women’s 4x400 relay team just missed out on All-American status, finishing ninth in the preliminaries to highlight the Hornet performances Friday at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
The team of Kara Euler, Jaclyn Sill, Danielle Sedivy and Jonel Rossbach ran the fourth-fastest time in ESU history with a 3:44.79, coming up just .34 seconds out of eighth place, a final run and also All-American honors.
The four had the 11th best time entering the event.
Damon Birk and Trent Olivier both improved on their pre-meet seedings in the shot put but failed to make the top 10.
Birk moved up seven spots to finish 14th with a throw of 52 feet, 1.25 inches, while Olivier posted a 50-11.50 to move up one position to 17th.
Craig Saalfeld also competed in the high jump, clearing 6-6.75 to place 15th.
ESU will try to get on the team scoreboard today, as defending national champion Andy Vogelsberg will compete alongside teammate Tyson Allen in the javelin beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Olivier and Birk will throw the discus at 3, and Rossbach will run in the finals of the 1,500-meter run at 5:50.
