Rossbach qualifies for finals

Friday, May 25, 2007

Emporia State runner Jonel Rossbach has moved into Saturday’s finals of the 1,500-meter run, qualifying by running a personal-best time on the first day of the NCAA Division-II National Championships in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday.

Rossbach finished in a time of 4:34.57, which was the fifth-best time overall. Her previous best was a 4:35.12 on March 31 at the UT-Arlington Invitational.

Jaclyn Sill placed 13th and Kara Euler 17th in the 400-meter run, as both came up short of Saturday’s finals.

Sill was sixth in her heat with a personal-best time of 55.70 seconds. The mark tied her with Euler for the third-best time in ESU history.

Euler finished with a 56.43 to place fourth in her heat.

Trent Olivier, the only other ESU athlete to participate Thursday, fouled in all three of his hammer throws.

Olivier and Damon Birk will be the first to compete for the Hornets today, as they will both take part in the shot put at 3 p.m.

Craig Saalfeld will participate in the high jump at 6 and the women’s 4x400 relay team of Euler, Sill, Rossbach and Danielle Sedivy will run at 8.
