As prescription drug prices continue to climb, Lyon County launched a discount-card program this week that allows customers to save an average of 20 percent on their prescriptions.
Doug Stueve of Lyon County Department on Aging said Lyon County making the cards available to all Lyon County citizens under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo).

“Using the NACo prescription drug discount card is easy,” Stueve said. “Simply present it at a participating pharmacy. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.”
Stueve said there is no cost to county taxpayers for the NACo program, which is administered by Caremark Rx. In Lyon County, the program is being coordinated by the Lyon County Department on Aging.

So, how is this being supported financially? As they say, there is no free lunch. The costs to Caremark would be considerable and they are not a company known for that kind of generosity.

admireed, no such luck. The 20% savings will probably only work for county employees, LOL!
Discounts on property taxes? Emporia could never do that--they're too busy giving discounts to business on THEIR property taxes.....so they can raise yours.
Nice, huh.

Where is the break down of where the money is coming from on this so called discount card? We all already know the kind of money being profited by the drug companies, so it really is not a discount. Believe me the companies will still be making a profit. The article did not list the pharmacies that will accept the card. It says "most pharmacies". Where is the list of pharmacies? With all the scams about drugs and prescriptions, it really makes you wonder about it. I would also like to know if it is going to be as confusing as the medicare drug prescription plan? I agree nothing is free!!!
