Talk about tai chi
The Emporia chapter of the AARP will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Regency Gardens Restaurant, 3021 W. Highway 50.
The program, presented by Mae Lovell, a registered nurse, will be about China and tai chi.
Tai chi is a slow-motion exercise method that not only improves muscle tone but improves balance and promotes mental relaxation.
The meeting is open to the public.
Kiwanis donations
At its meeting on April 26, the Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club presented checks for $1,000 to both the East Side Park group and the Peter Pan Playground group. The East Side group was represented by Mike Slappy and the Peter Pan group by Robin nelson and Mike Dorcey.
New officers were elected for the coming club year. They are: Steve Harmon, president; Jean Tidwell, president-elect; Alice Elkins, treasurer; Dawn Gorham, secretary; and Bill Jenson, Bill Wygle, Trudy Hutchinson, Paul McKnab, Brian Estes, Aaron Sewell and Lis Kirmer, directors.
