ROBERTA SEAMAN, who is in her second season of drag racing and is ranked second in the nation in the Western Division of the All Harley Drag Racing Association circuit.

• Mic McGuire, who converted a 1970 Volkswagen into an electric car to help conserve the planet’s natural resources.

• Kayla Oney, who graduated from Emporia State University and began her duties as director of Emporia Main Street on Monday.

• The Northern Heights High School girls track and field team, which won the Flint Hills League track and field championship in Council Grove. Jacquelynne Leffler won the girls shot put, discus and javelin events.

• Layne Moore, who set a school record in the 1,600-meter run at Centennial League tournament.

• The Greater Emporia Kennel Club, which held its annual dog show at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. The event attracted more than 600 dogs from across the country.

• The ESU baseball team, which won the MIAA Tournament title.

• Flint Hills Technical College, which got approval on its proposed dental hygienist program.

• Emporia city commissioners, who approved zoning for a new biodiesel plant. The plant will cost $65 million.

• The Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas, which will rename its building for longtime director John Randolph. Randolph worked at the center for more than 34 years.
