A pair of Emporia State baseball players swept the MIAA’s conference player of the week awards.
Matt Marasco, a junior from Maize, earned hitter of the week after going 10-for-20 in the MIAA Tournament. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games and also hit the game-winning home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth in the second championship game against Central Missouri.
Marasco transferred from Kansas State following his sophomore season.
Brock Nehls, a junior from Hays, won pitcher of the week after picking up a pair of wins in the conference tournament.
He threw two innings of two-hit relief in ESU’s opener to get the decision over Northwest Missouri State, then started the first championship game against UCM on Sunday, allowing three earned runs in six innings.
Nehls ended the weekend with a 3.12 earned-run average.
The right-hander transferred to ESU from Barton County Community College.
