Beautiful music

Monday, May 14, 2007

ON APRIL 24, at 7:30 p.m., the Amphion Men’s Ensemble, the Chante Women’s Choir, and the 4th Gear Men’s Quartet performed in Heath Recital Hall. Ben Spalding, a senior at ESU, was the conductor and Amy Rowland, a recent graduate of ESU, played the piano in accompaniment along with Melinda Graves. Dani Fischer not only sang but also played her bass guitar in several selections.

The entrance song was “O God, Beyond All Praising”, which was accompanied by Gary Ziek and Nathan Foster on trumpets, Theresa Ziek on horn, Joshua Kelly on trombone, Jeff Hodapp on tuba, Steve Knapp on timpani and Amy Rowland on piano. Beautiful!

We feel that Ben Spalding is a genius. He has been friends with our daughters for five years and is a multi-talented musician in his own right. He is already set to attend graduate school at a university in New Jersey this fall and we wish him well.

There was such a wonderful variety of music that Ben chose for this production. All of the students who participated, including several Amphion Alumni who sang on one song, made us proud. Adding to our pleasure was that many of these students we got to know through our daughters over the years.

We believe we speak for all who attended when we say, “Thanks for a great evening of entertainment from the bottom of our hearts.”
