Band auditions
The Emporia Municipal Band will kick of its 2007 season with the “audition” rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Emporia State University’s Beach Hall Band Room.
This is an open rehearsal for any musician who is interested in performing with the band this summer. After the rehearsal, the personnel roster will be completed and a substitute list will be set up. The band has openings in most instrumental sections, and particularly needs trumpets and french horn players.
Elder Alums gather
The Elder Alums of Hartford High School will be hosts for an open house on May 26 at the school.
The event is open to all alumni, spouses, families, friends, former students and former residents of Hartford. Refreshments will be served, according to a news release from the Elder Alums.
CPR class
A cardio-pulmonary resuscitation class is planned from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday in the continuing education classroom at Newman Regional Health. Participants will be taught to perform CPR on adults, infants, and children.
People who want to enroll may register in person at Newman’s marketing and education department on the second floor of the hospital.

Essayist to be honored
The Santa Fe Trail Republican Women are holding a reception Sunday to honor Jacquelyne Leffler, winner of the state essay contest “My Favorite Teacher.” The reception will also honor the subject of her essay, teacher Rick Ginter.
If among the final five contestants chosen by the national committee, Leffler would attend September’s fall convention in Palm Springs, Calif.
The reception will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Allen Senior Center. Friends and families of Leffler and Ginter are invited to attend.
