Emporia Community Foundation, which will manage a new project called the Kansas Youth Conservation Corps. Under the program at risk youth 18 to 22 years old will have a chance to work on conservation projects at the Tallgrass Praire National Preserve.
• Emporia Main Street, which donated and unveiled a new stone sculpture to celebrate Emporia’s 150th birthday. The sculpture was placed front of Lyon County Historical Museum.
• Angie Indra, Deb Oden and Charlotte Pinick who completed the Chicago Marathon.
• Flinthills Music, which supplied a large shipment of music instruments to Kabul, Afghanistan, for a local band.
• ESU softball coach Kristi Bredbenner who was awarded Co-Coach of the Year. She shared the honor with Central Missouri coach Susan Anderson.
• Bowlers who participated in the 25th annual Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake. The money raised will support Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
• ESU athlete Andy Vogelsberg who set a conference record in javelin.
• Hopkins Foundation, which gave away $30,000 to Emporia teachers. The teachers who received the cash prizes were Pam McGuire, Alan Keck, Susan Cates, Lynette Yevak, Jeanette Sliter, Jeannie Jenkins, Teresa Maley, Andy Battenfield, Lori Raney, Ginger Haas, Carol Alderman and Bernard Bueno.
• Area residents who are helping and donating goods for Greensburg residents.
• Kylee McCullough who singed a letter of intent to play soccer at Emporia State.
