Reduced kitten adoption fees

During the month of May, the Buck Fund is offering half price kitten adoption fees. The $50 adoption fee covers worming, first vaccinations and the spay/neuter surgery. Call or email the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund at 343-3377 or buckfund@cableone.net. A refundable spay/neuter deposit still applies.

Alumni banquet reservations

Reservations are being taken for the Reading High School Alumni Banquet, scheduled for June 2 in the Reading school gymnasium.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. in the commons area, with the dinner at 6:30.

Anyone who has attended or worked at Reading High School is welcome to attend, along with guests, according to a news release from the Reading High Alumni Association.

Tickets are $10.50 each, and reservations must be turned in by May 25. Send requests to the association in care of Clara Roberts, 2616 West Ridge Drive, Emporia KS 66801.

Blood drive Monday

The recent tornado and flooding have forced the American Red Cross to cancel several blood drives in Kansas. As a result, the Wichita blod bank is nearly 200 pints short.

There will be a blood drive in Emporia from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lee Beran Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave. Call (800) GIVE-LIFE to make an appointment. Walk-in donors are also welcome. All donors will receive a T-shirt.

Blue band Friday

TFI Family Services is asking people two wear blue ribbons or bands on their fingers ir wrists Friday to show support for the thousands of children in foster care. May is Foster Care Month.
