Rachelle Van Gundy pulled out a hat trick Friday night to lead the Emporia High girls soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Manhattan.
Van Gundy scored Emporia’s first two goals of the game and then knocked in her third score of the night in the 51st minute to lead the Lady Spartans.
Van Gundy’s first score of the game came in just the second minute thanks to an assist from Jessica Decker. Van Gundy scored less than 3 minutes later on an assist from Elisha Schultz to put EHS ahead 2-0.
Decker got in the scoring act in the ninth minute when she scored on an assist from Ashley Leihsing, making it 3-0. That would be the score at the half.
Van Gundy’s final goal — on another assist from Schultz — capped the scoring for Emporia (6-7).
Manhattan got on the board in the 61st minute on a goal from Hannah Dodds.
