There is no shortage of events this weekend in Emporia and the surrounding area. Here is a peek at what this weekend has in store:

• Max Falkenstien book signing from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Town Crier Bookstore, 716 Commercial St.

• Tri Sigma Garage Sale/Fundraiser Tools starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at 418 W. 12th Avenue. For more information call 342-5672.

• Emporia Farmer’s Market starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Merchant Street Parking lot. For more information call 343-6555.

• The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau will host an Eggs and Issues Forum with officials from the USD 253 school district from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mary Herbert School, 1700 W. Seventh Ave. Coffee and rolls will be served from 8 to 8:30 a.m.

• The Spring Fling Arts and Crafts show starting a 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Potter-Beath Center. For more information call 342-0767.

• Americus 150th Birthday Luncheon starting at 12 p.m. Saturday at the USD 251 Meeting Room in Americus. Attendees should bring a salad and tableware. For more information call 443-5546.

• Using Herbs and Spices in Middle Eastern Cuisine starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Learning Connection. Advanced registration required by calling 343-6555.

• The 25th Annual Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Flint Hills Bowling Lanes. For more information call 342-5645.

• Cruise Night starting at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bad Ol’ Bern’s BBQ & Ice Cream, 20 S. Commercial St.

• The Hospice Homes Tour will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at Hand in Hand Hospice; Newman Regional Health gift shop; Dayton’s Hobbies and Crafts; or any of Commerce Bank and Trust’s three locations around Emporia. Tickets also can be purchased at any one of the homes on Sunday.

It's odd they didn't get the Cinco De Mayo events listed but there has been an ad in the paper for several days. There is a dance Saturday evening and then events all day Sunday all at Las Casitas Park.
Hope they don't get rained out. Can't wait for some tacos from the St Catherines church booth.
