Bernie Toso, owner of Bad Ol’ Bern’s BBQ & Ice Cream restaurant decided to help out a fellow restaurant owner and friend.
Toso said Bad Ol’ Bern’s will serve a special Phoebe sandwich from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. or until they run out on Tuesday.
“We’re doing it to raise money for Phoebe Hensley’s medical expenses,” Toso said.
Hensely owns Phoebe’s Cafe & Cakes in downtown Emporia. Toso said Hensley has been in Stormont-Vail for a week and neither she nor her husband have insurance.
“We’re just trying to do something to help out a little bit,” Toso said. “It’s kinda where the idea came from.”
Toso hopes others around town will also hold fundraisers to help pay Hensley’s medical expenses.
Bad Ol’ Bern’s is located at 20 Commercial St.
