Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. Give these folks a pat on the back ...

THE Regional Development Association, which is in negotiations to bring a $65-million biodiesel plant to Emporia. It would add 30 jobs to our community and have an annual payroll of $1.35 million.

• Absolute Transport, which will expand its trucking operation in Emporia. A new building will be built and the company will provide work for nearly 300 people.

• The Emporia Community Foundation, which is giving money for community projects. The deadline for applications is April 13. Call 342-9304 for more information.

• Emporia State University President Michael Lane, who will be inaugurated Saturday as the university’s 15th president.

• Mark Kolmer and Josh Rodriguez, who won first place at the Kansas State Wrestling Folkstyle Championships in Topeka.

• Melissa Davis, who started her new job as the director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Flint Hills.

• ESU basketball players Donta Watson and DeAndre Townsend, who were named to the 2006-07 All-South Central Region second team.
