Release party for CD
The Charles Dowd Goodvibes Jazz Duo featuring Tracy Freeze will release a new CD recording of acoustic chamber jazz beginning at 8 p.m. Friday at Natasha’s Lounge, 627 Commercial St.
The Goodvibes jazz duo is currently on a tour of the United States, Mexico and Canada, promoting their second album “bus dust & dogs,” acoustic contemporary jazz for the unique combination of the vibraphone and marimba. Friday’s concert will include original jazz compositions for the duo, as well as works by Gary Burton and Chick Corea.
Classes will get together
The first joint annual pot-luck get together of Emporia High School classes of 1953, 1954 and 1955 will be held from 10:30 to 2:30 p.m. May 26 at the VFW Hall, 932 Graphic Arts Road. Participants are asked to take a covered dish to share. Spouses and guests are welcome.
Senator will speak
State Sen. Jim Barnett will be the guest speaker at the April 10 meeting of the Society of Emporians Exploring Key Issues meeting. Barnett will talk about health-care reform. The meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Best Western Hospitality House.
The meeting is open to the public.
