Performing at Kennedy
Emporia State University student Maria Stukey is a finalist for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship at this year’s Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
Sixteen students are in contention for two Irene Ryan scholarships, each worth $3,000. All 16 finalists have already been awarded a $500 scholarship in addition to the all-expenses paid trip to the festival, held from April 17 to April 22 in Washington D.C.
In addition, ESU theater professor Theresa Mitchell has received a faculty fellowship and will attend the festival to work with student award-recipients and attend master classes. A new home for CTE
The Community Theatre of Emporia has begun moving out of the Emporia Arts Council.
The CTE has been located at the arts council, 628 Mechanic St., for 10 years. According to a release by the theater company, the move was to help the arts council find more space for its own activities. The theater company plans to put its gear into storage while it raises funds and finds a new home.
“Our target is three to six months down the road,” the CTE said in its newsletter. “Any ideas or help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.”

Oakhurst, a Colorado bluegrass-roots-rock band, will play 8 p.m. March 30 at Josie’s. The band played more than 200 shows in 20 states and five European countries in 2006.
