The National Symphony Orchestra’s cello quartet, “Four in Correspondence,” will perform Sunday afternoon at Beach Hall on the Emporia State University campus.
Tickets cost $20 for adult and $10 for ESU students and youth, and may be purchased at the door or by calling the Emporia Arts Council at 343-6473. The concert begins at 1:30 p.m. in Heath Recital Hall.
The concert is part of a week-long residency in Kansas for the National Symphony Orchestra, which was invited to the state by the Kansas Arts Commission. Members of the orchestra will take part in about 150 activites across the state, including six full orchestral concerts.
The orchestra has performed “American Residencies” in one state each year since 1992. It arrived in Topeka on Thursday.
Four in Correspondence includes cellists Steven Honigberg, James Lee, David Teie and Rachel Young. The afternoon concert will include:
• “Four Chorales” by J.S. Bach.
• “The Meditation” from “Thais” by Jules Massenet.
• “Appalachia Waltz” by Mark O’Connor.
• “Hungarian Dance No. 1” by Johannes Brahms.
• “Hungarian Rhapsody” and “Dance of the Elves” by David Popper.
• “Coma” and “Somewhere Around Nothing” from “Apocalyptica” by Eicca Toppinnen.
• “Nocturne,” Op. 19, No. 4 by by Peter I. Tchaikovsky.
• “Suite Italienne” by Igor Stravinsky.
