St, Patrick's parade gets good crowds, good weather

More than 40 entries took part in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, with prize-winners including a green-themed luau and a motorized easy chair.
Beverly Durham, the event’s chair, called it one of the more successful St. Patrick’s parades in recent years.
“We had more interest than usual,” she said. “And the weather was perfect, so that brought the crowd out.”
The luau, complete with a very un-Irish palm tree, was put together by Birch Telecom while the easy chair, which drew some surprised laughs from the crowd, was brought out by Delwin and Sharon Burton as “the O’Burtons.” It was also the first event to include the Emporia Arts Council’s finished “Artmobile.”
“We’re never going to be the Emporia Christmas Parade, but that’s not our intent,” Durham sad. “It’s fun with whatever we get.”
This year’s award winners were:
• Family — The Gilligans.
• Business — Birch Telecom.
• Organization — The Shriners’ “Little Choppers.”
• Committee’s Choice — The O’Burtons.
• Manufacturer’s Challenge — Lenze Corp.

Well, no crap. It's March and its St. Patricks Day. Of course it will never be the Emporia Christmas Parade.
