Menu posts list of recalled pet food

Menu Foods has recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food after reports of kidney failure and deaths. The complete list of recalled products is now available at www.menufoods.com/recall.
According to The Associated Press, about 10 pets have died and an unknown number have suffered kidney failure after eating the affected food. The recall is limited to "cuts and gravy" style pet food in cans and pouches sold between Dec. 3 and March 6. The pet food was produced at the Emporia plant and another plant in Pennsauken, N.J.
The initial announcement was made Friday afternoon. A detailed report of the brands affected was released this morning.
Testing by Menu has not yet determined the source of the problems. However, the recalled products were made using wheat gluten from a new supplier. That supplier has been dropped, the company said on its Web site, and a new source for the ingredient is now being used.
According to the AP, the pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Co., Safeway, Wal-Mart and PetSmart among others.
The phone number to call with questions has changed and is now (866) 895-2708.
The recall affects 37 brands of cat food and 46 brands of dog food. The labels affected are listed below. Please see the company's Web site for product details, including the specific product, product code and date of production. Products not identified on the Web site can continue to be used, the company said on the site.

Why would wheat gluten need to be imported from China? Is this not available in Kansas or at least the USA?
