9 ESU basketball players
make MIAA honor roll
Six Lady Hornets and three Hornets were named to the 2006-07 MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for basketball, the league announced this week.
Michelle Stueve, Casey Henningsen, Tegan Stuart, Carolyn Dorsey, Tina Commons and Shelby Chilson earned the honor from the Emporia State women’s basketball team, while Scott Elliott, Wes Book and Caleb Tegtmeier represented the ESU men’s team on the list.
To earn the honor roll distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better, have at least two terms of attendance at their school and must be a sophomore, junior or senior.
Redshirt athletes are not eligible for the honor.
Kids Wrestling Club
sends 29 to Districts
The Emporia Kids Wrestling Club qualified 29 of 30 wrestlers that competed at Sub-Districts in Chapman on March 10.
Fourteen wrestlers took first-place Sub-District titles: Isidro Trujillo, Max Detwiler, Braxton Marstall, Trey Francka, Bryce Dakin, Tanner Page, Nicolas Dikin, Chase Sanchez, Logan Gaskill, Lorenzo Serna, Justin Rose, Sal Tovar, Mark Kolmer and Josh Rodriguez.
Four wrestlers took second: Gabe Buckbee, Damian Herrera, Hayden Perry and Jared Dakin.
Nine wrestlers came in third: Daniel Herrera, Garrett Whitson, Hunter Wing, Dylan Samuels, Michael Sturm, Carlos Playa-Casiano, Zeb Peak, Taylor Lee and Caleb Chiroy.
The other three qualifiers were Drew Detwiler in fourth place, Nico Rodriguez in fourth place and Octavio Dikin in fifth place.
The 29 wrestlers advanced to compete at Districts in Junction City, with the top 4four advancing to State on March 24-25.
