Kindergarten round up orientations to take place

Children who will attend kindergarten next fall and their parents are asked to attend one of the orientations planned next month in Emporia elementary schools.
Kindergarten orientation will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 16, and 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Logan Avenue, Riverside, Timmerman, Village, Walnut and William Allen White schools. Interpreters will be available for parents who speak Spanish.
Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2007, are eligible to attend kindergarten in 2007-2008. All Emporia schools offer full-day kindergarten, but parents have the option to enroll their children only for a half day.
Parents and students are encouraged to attend an orientation session to meet staff members, receive information about the enrollment process, and learn about services available to students. Parents also will learn what they can do now to prepare their children for the start of school. The children will spend time in the classroom with the teachers.
Formal enrollment will be held in July and the school year will begin Aug. 14.
