Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades converged on Lowther South Intermediate School this month to take part in one of the district’s late-winter traditions: the citywide jump-rope contest.
Andy Battenfield, fifth grade physical education teacher at Lowther South, said approximately 60 students from each of the three grades qualified for the final competitions held after school earlier this month. To qualify in building-level competitions, third-grade students had to jump a minimum of five minutes, fourth-graders a minimum of six minutes and fifth-graders a minimum of seven minutes.
Battenfield provided this list of winners from the district competitions:
Third-Grade Girls — Prisila Monroy, Timmerman, first place, 17 minutes and 27 seconds; Monique Hernandez, Logan Avenue, second, 17:23; Diana Montalvo, Walnut, third, 14:50; Janet Miranda, Riverside, fourth, 13:25; and Ashley Osario, William Allen White, fifth, 11:40.
