A retirement reception for 61 Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation workers was held recently to honor those long-term employees who had accepted an early retirement offer from the company.
“The celebration was a fitting tribute to the employees who gave so much of themselves during their tenure at Wolf Creek,” said Rick Muench, president and chief executive officer.
Approximately 150 people were eligible for the program, according to information from WCNOC. However, because of business needs, a limited number were able to take advantage of the offer. The offer included a combination of age and years of service credits to augment the company’s pension plan, and an enhanced retiree medical benefit.
“The program was offered as a positive way to facilitate reaching our long-term staff plan goals and enables our Leadership Team to start building our workforce of the future,” Muench said.
The “workforce of the future” project is an essential piece of the company’s business plan and includes beginning improvements to the non-bargaining unit compensation package, continuing efforts to improve leadership and the constructive culture of the plant, and implementing workforce plans.
The workforce plans refer to long-term staffing, identifying positions essential to maintaining the “critical skills and knowledge required to operate the plant safely,” and knowledge-retention plans.
The approach also give the corporation opportunities to make other improvements in the organization, such as creating openings for advancement of strong leaders of the future, a news release stated.
