Kiwanis Pancake Day — 59 times

The Kiwanis Club of Emporia will present its 59th annual Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson Building on the Lyon County fairgrounds.

Tickets for adults will be $5 at the door or may be purchased in advance for $4 from any member. Tickets for children ages 4-8 are $3 in advance and $4 at the door.

Those three and younger are free of charge. Advance adult tickets also are available at The Shopper through Friday. The menu includes all the pancakes one can eat, plus a serving of sausage and choice of one serving of milk or coffee with free refills. Additional sausage patties or milk are 50 cents each.

Herb Wyrick is in charge of this year’s Pancake Day. Proceeds will be the basis for the club’s service budget when he is installed as president in September. He also may be called for tickets at 342-0773.

Concert for New York City trip

The Emporia High School Benefit Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 12 in the EHS auditorium, with performances by the EHS Orchestra, EHS Viva Voce and EHS Jazz Band; Joe and Sharon Rogers, cellists ; James Starr and company; and La Esperanza with Hector Sanchez. Admission is $5.

Proceeds will be used to help pay for the orchestra’s trip to New York City from May 30 to June 6.
