The recent snows have helped the drought situation in Kansas, removing 57 Kansas counties from the drought warning list and placing them on a drought watch status.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced Tuesday that three local counties — Greenwood, Chase and Morris — were taken from drought warning to drought watch.
According to a press release, only three counties remain on the drought warning list. Those three counties are Barber, Harper and Sumner in south central Kansas.
Stream flow, which provides a measure for drought conditions, has improved since fall. Only 20 percent of measure streams had below normal stream flow in late February, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This compared to nearly two-thirds of streams were below normal last November.
