KAYLA ONEY, who was named the new director of Emporia Main Street.
• Olpe Elementary School, which earned the Governor’s Achievement Award. The school received this award for its students achieving the Standard of Excellence in both reading and math for 2006 on state assessment test scores.
• Organizers and participants of the Flint Hills Technical College Rumble in the Jungle auction. The event raised $25,000 to support students at the technical college.
• Walt and Peggy Schuler, who opened the Hornet Thrift store in the former Hills Appliance building.
• Jacquelyne Leffler, who won first place in a state essay contest. The award was given by the Federation of Republican Women.
• ESU basketball players Donta Watson and DeAndre Townsend, who were named to the All-MIAA first team. This was the first time in ESU history where two Hornets have been named to the first team in the same year.
• ESU basketball player Michelle Stueve, who earned MIAA player of the week award.
• Juanita Brown, who won $10,000 in the Kansas Lottery from a $2 Uno instant ticket.
• The Emporia High junior varsity basketball team that completed the 2006-2007 with a perfect 18-0 record.
