Emporia still doesn’t have a city manager, but Mayor Jim Kessler said a “more concrete” announcement could be coming Monday.
The Emporia City Commission met for two and a half hours in closed session this morning before adjourning to 8 a.m. Monday. The commission is deciding between Matt Zimmerman of Prospect Heights, Ill. and Ron Massey of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Kessler said the commissioners wanted to speak further with consultant Chuck Anderson about the candidates, what the city would offer in negotiations and how the offer would be made.
“I think the key is to make sure that everyone knows we’re taking our time to do it right,” Kessler said. “Everyone’s anxious. We all are. ... We just want to do it right.”
