New Strawn
The New Strawn City Council has passed an ordinance authorizing Sunday sales of packaged alcoholic liquor and cereal malt beverage in the city.
The Coffey County Republican reported that the city passed the ordinance on June 7 meeting following a 3-2 vote. The ordinance allows the sale of cereal malt beverage in the original package from noon to 8 p.m. on any Sunday, except Easter.
Marion County
Marion County Public Health Administrator Diedre Serene reported that she has received confirmation of a case of tularemia in Marion County.
The Marion County Record reported that Serene said the lab work that confirmed the diagnosis came last week. The disease cannot be spread from person to person but people can become infected if exposed to an animal infected by a tick bite.
The county nurses encouraged residents to prevent tick bites by using insect sprays and check their bodies for the pests.
Madison
The Madison Historical Society volunteers will have the Depot Museum open this weekend through Sunday.
The Madison News reported that the museum will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. each afternoon. It also will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. on the Fourth of July.
