Ordained
The Rev. Pamela S. Harris MD of Mission and formerly of Emporia is a new deacon in the United Methodist Church. She was ordained by Bishop Jones during the June 9 service in Baldwin City.
Harris was elected a full member in the annual conference during the session. As a deacon with full membership, she will be able to preach the word, conduct worship, perform the marriage ceremony and bury the dead.
She was commissioned into ministry in 2004. She has a bachelor’s degree in human biology and medical degree from the University of Kansas. She has completed basic theological studies at St. Paul School of Theology.
On Sunday, Harris will be appointed to Leawood United Methodist Church, Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care. She and her husband, Thomas Harris, have two daughters, 17-year-old Emily and 14-year-old Bethany. She is the daughter of Janet Fitzpatrick of Emporia and Thomas Fitzpatrick of Olathe.
Commissioned
Caren Loper of Topeka and a native of Reading is a newly commissioned minister in the United Methodist Church. Loper was commissioned by United Methodist Bishop Scott Jones during a service June 9 in Baldwin City. The service at Baker University was part of the 2007 session of the Kansas East Annual (Regional) Conference of the United Methodist Church.
She is preparing for ordination as an elder and full member of the conference. Loper has a master of divinity degree from St. Paul School of Theology. She will be appointed as associate minister to Countryside United Methodist Church on Sunday.
She previously served Leavenworth Trinity United Methodist Church and previously was a freelance musician and piano instructor. She has one son, John Loper, and is the daughter of Clara Viola Balding of Reading.
