It’s been a nail-biter. But with time running out, Corner House might have made its $1.3 million goal.
A final tally and announcement will be made this afternoon. Figures earlier this week had the drug and alcohol “halfway house” within $13,000 of its target, according to board vice-president Basil Kessler.
“I believe tomorrow’s tally is going to close the gap,” Kessler said Wednesday. “It looks very positive that we will end it successfully.”
Corner House has been active in Emporia since 1974 and is one of the few residential treatment programs in Kansas. The agency gives recovering addicts a place to stay, group and individual therapy, legal services and help with employment.
The organization has to make its goal before July 1 or else it will lose $470,000 in challenge grants. If it succeeds, it plans to build a new recovery center. Corner House occupies two houses in the 400 block of Market Street, both of which are more than 80 years old.

For those that are not familiar with this organization, it is a great assett to the community. I know of several men that have completed a program through Corner House, and have really succeeded in life. Hats off to the staff and any volunteers that have assisted this organization!!!!!!
