Daylily Tour
Toad Hollow’s 11th annual Daylily Tour will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Toad Hollow, 1534 Road 170.
Owner Nina West said the daylilies are blooming and there are butterflies everywhere.
The farm is four miles east of Emporia on Interstate 35 to exit 135, south on Road R1, then east one block of Road 170.
West said she is asking people not to bring pets to the tour.

Princess Scouts
The Girl Scouts are inviting all girls entering the first grade to “Being a Princess” from 1 to 4 p.m. July 7 at the Amend Girl Scout Center, 1200 Burlingame Road. They will have “fun princess activities.”
On July 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., girls in grades three to six are invited to Emporia State University to solve “The Case of the Unsigned Letter.” They will use chemistry to analyze ink, soil samples and handwriting to find out which relative sent a letter promising a present. This activity is financed by the American Chemical Society.

Concert Friday
The band Sweetwater will perform an outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Friday on the ewest campus of the Emporia Presbyterian Church, 1702 W. 15th Ave.
The “Concert in the Courtyard” is free and open to the public. It is the final event in a weeklong vacation Bible school sponsored by Emporia Presbyterian Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
In the event of rain, the concert will be moved inside at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church.
Auditions for comedy
Auditions are scheduled next month for a production that will benefit Corner House. The try-outs will be from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 6 at the Emporia Recreation Center meeting room.
Jacob Nelson, who is organizing the effort, said that while the Corner House fund-raising drive will be finished, money still will be needed by the agency.
Six men and two women, ages 20 and up, are needed to portray characters in a comedy, “Bad Habits,” by Terrence McNally. The play will be presented on Aug. 17 and 18.

Adult orientation
Orientation week for Adult Education Center GED classes will be held July 9 through July 12 at Flint Hills Technical College, 3301 W. 18th Ave. Sessions will be conducted every day from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interested students can report to the FHTC Student Services Office. Daily attendance during orientation is mandatory. Students are asked to bring paper and a pencil.
Orientation and assessment for English as a Second Language and (ESL) Pre-GED classes will also be held July 9 through July 12 at the FHTC Adult Education Center, 620 Constitution St. Classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Attendance is mandatory.
