After capturing a third-place trophy in the Parson’s Sub-State Tournament on June 16, the Emporia U-12 Energy went 1-3 at the Mike’s Summer Slam Tournament in Emporia last weekend.
“We are getting better,” Emporia coach Eric Jackson said. “It is too late in the season to use age as an excuse, but we knew coming into this year we were going to be a very young team in this league.”
Emporia’s one win came in an 11-5 triumph over Great Bend.
Jackson said his team had managed to stay competitive despite being at a height and weight disadvantage.
“We can’t control our size, so we have worked very hard to get faster, quicker and attack the ball better offensively,” Jackson said.
The U-12s will take this weekend off before traveling to Concordia on July 7.
