Lyon County Commission
Lyon County commissioners will meet for a study session starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Lyon County commission chambers of the Lyon County Courthouse. Items on the agenda include:
• 8:45 a.m.: Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer will bring the following items forward:
• At 9:45 a.m., Ty Wheeler, of Kansas Legal Services, will discuss 2008 appropriations.
• At 10 a.m., Gary Post, Lyon County appraiser will bring the following items before the commissioners:
• At 10:30 a.m., Karen Hartenbower, county clerk, will ask commissioners to consider the purchase of a scanner.
• At 10:45 a.m., Lougene Marsh, executive director of Flint Hills Community Health Center will discuss the 2008 budget; and discuss a grant agreement for local environmental protection program.
• At 11:15 a.m., Gary Eichorn, Lyon County sheriff, will ask commissioners to consider the purchase of Blackberry technology to enhance communication.
• At 11:30 a.m., Mark McKenna and Chris Wilkinson, of facilities, will discuss replacing courthouse stairwell lights and discuss replacing condenser coil for jail rooftop unit.
Emporia City Commission
The Emporia City Commission will continue its adjourned meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the city conference room at 521 Market St. The commissioners will consider a measure adopting a policy for tax increment financing and transportation development districts, two possible incentives for attracting retail business.
Afterward, commissioners will hold a study session to discuss:
• An employee classification and compensation study.
• The environmental analysis report on the city airport.
• Emporia Main Street’s budget and the budget for the general fund. The general fund will likely take two meetings to review.
Following the study session, city and county commissioners will meet over lunch in the city conference room. The joint meeting should begin around noon.
Emporia school board
Building improvements and computer-related purchases will dominate the agenda for the Emporia board of education meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Mary Herbert Learning Center.
The board will be asked to approve bids for site improvements at the Emporia Middle School and Emporia High School and for gym floor repairs at Lowther North Intermediate School.
Laptop computers and data warehousing software also are among purchases requested for approval.
Agreements will be considered with ESSDAC for the Flint Hills Learning Center and Head Start, and with a group for Measure of Academic Progress assessments.
