The MIAA’s Chief Executive Officer’s Council ratified the action to accept the University of Nebraska-Omaha into the conference, meaning the Mavericks will be a league member beginning in the 2008-09 season.
The official vote took place Friday during the council’s meeting at the NCAA Division II Presidents and Chancellors Summit in San Diego.
UNO, founded in 1908, has 15 sports and an enrollment of more than 14,000 students.
The Mavericks have some history with Emporia State, as the two schools were members of the Central Intercollegiate Conference from 1959-68 and later formed the Plains Division of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference from 1968-72 and the Great Plains Athletic Conference in 1972-73.
UNO becomes the 11th member of the MIAA.
The Mavericks, who are currently members of the North Central Conference, have won 59 NCC league titles in 13 different sports.
