Municipal band concert
The Emporia Municipal Band will give its weekly free concert at 8 p.m. today at Fremont Park, Fourth Avenue and Union Street. This week’s program celebrates the circus.

Salvation Army reception
Salvation Army Capts. Mark and Sue Haslett will be guests of honor at a reception Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Citadel Annex, 327 Constitution St. The reception is open to the public.
Free classes
Free classes will be offered on using the Internet to find good books to read, author information and free access to e-books, audiobooks and music online. Entitled “Bookercise —Online resources for readers and listeners,” the sessions will be held at 2 p.m. June 27 at the Emporia Public Library and 7 p.m. June 28 at the Flint Hills Technical College library. On the porch at Red Rocks
The June series of “Readings on the Porch” will continue at 7 p.m. today at the William Allen White House national historic site, 927 Exchange St. The program will be “From Emporia: The Story of William Allen White,” featuring readings by Beverley Buller from her upcoming children’s biography of White.
The next program will be at 7 p.m., June 28. “The Last Year and Death of the Sage of Emporia,” will feature a guest reading of the Henry Haskell eulogy delivered at White’s funeral.
Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Photography camps
All girls ages 11 to 17 are invited to attend photography camps, sponsored by the Girl Scouts of the Flint Hills at Girl Scout Camp EE north of Emporia. The girls will spend time taking pictures, downloading them, reviewing them with a professional photographer and making photo corrections on the computer, along with cropping and printing. The camp for girls 11 to 13 years will be from 8:30 a.m. July 12 to 5 p.m. July 13, with a cost of $30. The camp for girls 14 to 17 years will be from 8:30 a.m. July 25 to 5 p.m. July 27. FSA emergency loans
Farmers in Lyon County who suffered crop or livestock losses because of severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from May 4, 2007 through May 18, 2007 may now apply for Farm Service Agency emergency loans, according to a news release from Jane M. Armitage, FSA Farm Loan manager. Chase, Greenwood, Marion, Morris and Wabaunsee counties also become eligible under existing legislation. Applications for assistance will be accepted by FSA until Jan. 25, 2008. The Emporia office,at 3020 W. 18th Ave., is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Card shower for 100 years
A card shower has been requested for former Emporian Joye Heusner, 721 W. 21st St., Apt. 108, Andover, KS 67002. She was a longtime resident of Emporia until three years ago when she moved into assisted living at Andover. She will celebrate her 100th birthday on June 30.
