Washburn scholarships
Washburn University has awarded scholarships to area high schools graduates. The scholars were honored at a banquet recently on the Washburn campus.
Students from the Emporia area receiving scholarships included:
Burlington High School — Brenda Fry and Sven Salber, both of Burlington, and Ryan Gilbert of LeRoy.
Chase County High School — Sarah Grokett of Cottonwood Falls.
Council Grove High School — Adam Dilley of Dwight and Samantha Wright of Council Grove.
Eureka High School — Lucas Mullin of Eureka.
Hartford High School — Gerald Coats of Lebo, Stephanie Dall of Emporia and Blake Edwards received the valedictorian scholarship and the Shaw Scholarship.
Osage City High School — Kyle Davis of Osage City.
Off to Africa
Washburn University student Krystle Dalke of Madison was awarded a summer session 2007 scholarship to study animal behavior in Rwanda, Africa. Students from Washburn University studied at other locations in the United States and abroad during the spring semester and are studying abroad during the summer session and fall semester.
William Jewell grad
Justin Greene of Cottonwood Falls graduated from William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., in December. Greene received a bachelor of science degree in music performance.
Hartford honors
The following students have been placed on the honor roll at Hartford High School and Neosho Rapids Junior High for the fourth quarter of the school year. To be on the principal’s honor roll, a student must have all A’s. To be on the high honor roll, a student may have one B and the rest A’s and to be on the honor roll, a student must have a GPA of 3.0 to 3.75.
