Bren Fisher, a senior-to-be at Emporia High School, came away with a first-place finish at a Kansas Junior Golf Association sectional tournament at The Course at Carey Park in Hutchinson on Thursday, carding an even-par 71.
Fisher led the way for several other Emporia golfers, as fellow EHS teammates Fletcher Harder, Matt McAnarney and Zach Young also participated in the tournament in Hutchinson.
Harder fired a 2-over 73 to place right behind Fisher in second place, while McAnarney finished with a 7-over 78 and Young came in with a 9-over 80.
Two weeks ago at an earlier KJGA tournament in Hesston, Fisher placed second with an even-par 71, while Harder finished with a 74, McAnarney shot a 77 and Young carded an 83. The quartet was joined in Hesston by another EHS teammate, Eric Reimer, who carded a 79.
The next expected action for the five golfers, who helped Emporia High to a runner-up finish at the Class 5A State tournament this spring, will be next week, as the Emporia Municipal Golf Course will play host to the Kansas Junior Amateur State Championship.
A practice round will be held on Monday, followed by 36 holes of stroke play on Tuesday and Wednesday. After the first two rounds, a cut will be made to include the lowest 15 scores in each age group to advance to the final round, which will be held on Thursday.
A field of more than 200 golfers from across the state is expected.
