A job change within the family will not affect Emporia’s medical community nor its state senate representation.
Dr. Jim Barnett, 17th District State Senator and physician with Internal Medicine Associates, said that the family plans to continue living in Emporia after his wife, Yvonne, starts a new job in the Kansas City area.
“I’m not moving and I’m continuing with full-time practice with Internal Medicine Associates and will continue to represent people of the 17th Senatorial District,” Barnett said Wednesday.
Yvonne Barnett has accepted a position as a gifted education teacher in the Blue Valley school district. The local school board accepted her resignation during its meeting Wednesday night. The job change will enable her to be nearer an elderly parent in the metro area.
She said she had been happy teaching in the Emporia school district.
“I treasure the families and students that I worked with,” she said.
The change in teaching locale will allow her to visit daily with her family before driving back to Emporia.
