Congressional interns
Applications are being taken for fall internships with Rep. Jerry Moran. Opportunities are open in offices in Washington, D.C., Hays, Hutchinson and Salina.
Congressional interns assist with legislative and administrative projects on behalf of Kansans, according to information from Moran.
“I had the opportunity as a college student to be an intern in Washington, D.C., for First District Congressman Keith Sebelius,” Moran wrote. “My internship opened my eyes to the possibility that I could work as a public servant to make things better for Kansas.”
Applications, due by July 9, may be downloaded from Moran’s website, http://www.jerrymoran.house.gov.

Senior Singles is being formed as a “new group designed for fun and Christian fellowship.” The first meeting will be at noon June 20 at the Regency Gardens in the Best Western Motel. Participants will order off the menu and enjoy a short program by singer and songwriter Lisa Moritz. Plans are to meet once a month with fun activities and trips together. Lemonade for L.A.
Charlie Wilks, 12, will operate a lemonade stand on Thursday to raise money for a trip to the National Braille Challenge in Los Angeles. The stand will be open at Family Video, 1012 Commercial St., during the store’s sidewalk sale.
Charlie, who has been blind since he was 5, is the only Kansan competing among the 60 students whose scores were high enough to qualify for the national contest.
