Inductions this weekend
Public events for 2007 class will be Thursday and Friday

For Emporia, it’s about to be Hall in a day’s work.
The National Teachers Hall of Fame welcomes its newest members to town Thursday, celebrating the best that teaching has to offer. Members of this year’s class — the 16th class to be honored — are:
• Norman Dale Conard of Uniontown, a high school social studies and video production teacher.
• Edna Loveday Rogers of Sevierville, Tenn., a kindergarten teacher.
• Geri Rohlff of Auburn, Wash., a high school language arts, study skills and alternative education teacher.
• John Snyder of Las Vegas, a high school computer science teacher.
• Joseph W. Underwood of Davie, Fla., a high school television and moviemaking teacher.
As usual, the class will be caught up in a bit of a whirlwind during its two-day stay in Emporia. Some of the events include:
THURSDAY
• 4 p.m. -- The inductees arrive in Emporia and shortly afterward, are given an orientation.
• 5:30 p.m.-- Welcome dinner for the inductees at the Sauder Alumni Center.
• 7 p.m. -- The new inductees join the audience in Fremont Park for the Emporia Municipal Band concert. The event is open to the public.
FRIDAY
• 8:30 a.m. -- Informational breakfast for the inductees.
• 10:15 a.m. -- Roundtable discussion in Visser Hall 330, the Jones Conference Center. The discussion is open to the public.
• 11:15 a.m. -- Press conference for the inductees.
• Noon -- Inductee lunch. About this time will also be a private meeting of the Hall of Fame’s Board of Trustees and Board of Governors.
• 12:45 p.m. -- Inductees rehearse for the award ceremony.
• 3:45 p.m. -- Photo shoot and reception for the inductees at the new Hall of Fame in Visser 114 and in the Visser Hall atrium.
• 5:30 p.m. -- Seating begins for the Hall of Fame banquet in the ESU Memorial Union Colonial Ballroom.
• 5:45 p.m -- The banquet begins. The public is welcome.
• 7:30 p.m. -- The new members are formally inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Albert Taylor Hall. The public is welcome. The five candidates will be given a chance to speak as they are inducted.
• 9:15 p.m. -- Reception at the Best Western Conference Center. The public is welcome
SATURDAY
• No public events Saturday. The inductees will be taken to the Jantzen Ranch from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and given a farewell dinner at 6 p.m. in the Kansas City Airport Marriott. The inductees return home Sunday.
