Council Grove
Members and guests of the Heart of the Flint Hills Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association have begun a 203-mile ride on the SFT beginning on Thursday. The event will be completed on June 19 in Council Grove.
The Council Grove Republican reported that the ride includes historical points of interest and local speakers.
Marion County
The Marion County commission is considering participating in a national program that provides the free discount prescription cards through the National Association of Counties.
The Peabody Gazette Bulletin reported that if the county signed up for the program, all county residents would be eligible for the discount card. An agency would distribute the cards. There are 30 counties participating in the program including Butler, Geary, Harvey, Lyon, Reno, Saline and Sedgwick.
There are no enrollment fees, no age or income requirements and no medical conditions restrictions.
Hillsboro
Voters in Hillsboro voted by a margin of 465 to 404 votes Tuesday on USD 410’s request for $6.625 million in property taxpayers’ money for school facility expansions and upgrades.
Several projects will be funded through the vote, which includes a school expansion; remodeled chemistry and biology classroom, new dressing rooms, new weight room training facility and parking lot improvements at Hillsboro High School.
Marion County
Prairie View, which has been a part of Marion County for the past 40 years, is picking up and moving to Hillsboro, the Marion County Record reported.
St. Luke Hospital needed more room for a new doctor and other medical providers and it made sense to officials to use existing facilities, which meant terminating a contract with longtime tenant, Prairie View.
The location in Hillsboro Prairie View chose is Hillsboro Heights, a retail park off of U.S. 56.
